Microbiology Series: Episode 4

Fungal Structures and Their Functions

Transcript of Ep4

In this episode, I’ll provide an overview of microscopic fungal structures. There is hella variety in these organisms, so this will just be an introduction to the main, more common features which include yeasts and their buds and pseudohyphae, mold hyphae, and mold spores. I’ll also give a summary of the reproduction methods of our clinically relevant fungi. Finally, we will compare some of these features to bacteria and discuss why these structures matter when it comes to treatment options.
