Microbiology Series: Episode 8
Clinical Laboratory Microscopic Identification Techniques Part 1
Ever wonder how your doctor is able to determine if you have an infection and what it is? Well, this episode will start the journey needed to answer that question by introducing the microscopic methods used by laboratory technicians to preliminarily identify microorganisms. This will include discussions about the staining methods used to visualize bacteria and fungi (and very briefly, viruses). This is my wheelhouse! I’m excited to shed some light on an area I am intimately familiar with.
